Amazing Adolescence is how I would like to describe the transition to adulthood " a time of discovery of self, surge of hormones, appearance of those troublesome pimples and of course the taste of romance etc. the list is endless. Adults may think LOVE is the most misused word, but at sweet seventeen, first crush still brings butterflies.

Social media, easy availability of internet, has opened new arena of danger. Youngsters fall easy prey to relationships, which entraps them emotionally and academics receive a setback. Immature handling of relationships has sometimes resulted in acid attack, stab injury.

We need not see all relationships as potentially dangerous, but the absence of a platform to discuss these " Feelings for someone of opposite sex", often frustrates these youngsters. Though, parents ought to be the best counselors for their children, but most are not capable of discussing a taboo topic like "falling in love". This is why, Awareness Classes in Schools and colleges become mandatory. Most of the Gynae Societies have their members actively involved in these classes. Interacting with these youngsters, openly discussing various topics like Menstruation, hormonal changes, responsible sexuality etc.., has been a very satisfying experience for the doctors. Boys also must be taught about menstruation, hormonal changes, pornography and substance abuse. Many boys resort to crime when they are "rejected by their love interest". In fact, we had managed to rope in doctors from other specialties like urology, pediatrics, psychiatry for taking classes. We had also started Classes for Parents of Teenagers " so as to cope with the challenges of guiding teens during their growing years. Teenagers are most influenced by Peer pressure, so parents find it difficult to communicate with their teens. So let us join hands to guide our youngsters for a better tomorrow.
