Aims & Objectives of the Federation

To support and protect the character and interest of the Medical Profession in general and of Practitioners of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in particular.
To hasten the spread of knowledge and aid in educational activities in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and its sub-specialties and allied topics.
To facilitate study, evaluation and research in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology such as Reproductive Medicine, Child Health, Family Welfare, Contraception and a host of allied subjects.
To develop and maintain a strong liaison with the Government of Kerala through its various departments to ascertain and explore the possibility of mutual co-operation in projects and programmes in furthering the welfare of the women and children of our state.
To work hand-in-hand with Non-Governmental and independent associations for collective approach in strengthening the infrastructure for women’s health care delivery system.
To publish periodicals aimed at disseminating the knowledge of the recent advances in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and also to notify the major programmes on the anvil as also to provide a profile of future academic activities of the various societies and clubs.
To work as a unifying and coordinating link between the various societies and clubs.
To decide and monitor the conduct of All Kerala Conference of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at various centres hosted by the member societies in rotation.
To encourage and finance academic research activities by young and upcoming members in whatever way possible.
To enquire confidentially into causes of all maternal deaths to identify preventable causes with the idea of preventing maternal deaths and bringing down maternal deaths to the irreducible minimum and to promote the motto “Save the mother, Save Generations.”
To conduct classes at Schools/Colleges to improve adolescent health and impart knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases.

Members of the Federation

The Federation includes all the Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies in Kerala affiliated to the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India and the clubs and other academic bodies like clubs in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology functioning in cities and towns of Kerala. They will be designated as member bodies. Any society or club desiring membership should apply to the Secretary of KFOG who will present such application to the Managing council after scrutinizing the memorandum of association of the applicant. Only after the Managing council and the general body approve the membership becomes effective.
In case a town or city has both – an affiliated gynaecological society and a club and if there is any dispute regarding membership, the society will have precedence over the club to be a member body in the Federation and for the conduct of AKCOG.
A member body should have at least twenty members to be eligible for recognition and registration as a member body in the Federation.
The minimum academic qualification for a member shall be the degree of MBBS or an equivalent degree recognized by the Indian Medical Council, and he/she should have special interest in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
An individual can be represented in the Federation only through one member body like Society or club, even if he /she has membership of a club and a society.

Committees

Special committees to focus attention on various activities of the KFOG have been constituted. The Chairman of all committees is a member of the Managing Council. The term of office of the committees of KFOG is 3 years unless otherwise decided by the Managing Council.

Role of Managing council and office bearers

The Managing Council directs and regulates the general affairs of the Federation and shall, subject to the control of the General Body. The council has powers to frame rules and bye-laws for the conduct of the business at meetings of the Federation, and for direction of the publication, if any.

The council has the powers.

To appoint Committees and Sub-Committees
To represent any matter in which they consider the interests of the Federation, of the Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or the Medical Profession are affected, before the Government and public bodies or any properly constituted authority.
The Managing Council considers the reports of the various committees and sub committees and submits the same to the General Body with their recommendations.
The Managing Council prepares the Annual Report and Balance Sheet and statement of accounts to be presented to the General Body at the Ordinary General Body meeting.
To manage the funds of the Federation in accordance with the general policy laid down by the General Body.

The President heads the Organization to fulfill the basic objectives and aims and in line with the minuted decisions of the Managing Council. He/ She maintains uninterrupted liaison with the Government of Kerala to channelise and to cooperate with the Government in all the programmes that are beneficial to the Women and Children of the State.
Vice-President assists the President in fulfilling the above activities and performs the duties of the President in his absence.
The Secretary General is the custodian of the office of the Federation and is responsible for maintaining all the records in order. He communicates with the Member bodies and to its members and to other organizations including FOGSI and the Government of Kerala as and when required. He allocates special tasks to the Joint Secretary for the smooth functioning of the association.
The Joint Secretary assists the Secretary General in Organizing and carrying out the activities of the Federation.
The Treasurer is responsible for maintenance of the accounts of the Federation.
The Editor is responsible for the publication of the Periodicals of the Association.
The Special Committees function as per the objectives for which they are constituted.
