President’s Message

KFOG President
Dr. K.U. Kunjumoideen
President

Time has been very kind to me and I have had the very good opportunity of having known, interacted and worked with all the past presidents of the Kerala Federation of OBGYN each of whom has left his or her mark in no small measure. Standing on the shoulders of giants, enables one to see further than the giant himself. And so , with their support, cooperation and good will I hope to take this splendid organisation to newer heights.

Often one’s journey is made enjoyable and memorable by the presence of certain people who join us in certain phases of our lives. Our mentors, friends and family and my journey has been no different. These people are too great in number to name and thank individually, but I continue to rely on them as my pillars of stability.

It is customary at the building of any grand enterprise to lay the foundation stone at the North east part of the building. And from the foundation laid at Kannur I hope to raise this super structure perfect in its parts and honorable to the builders to scale greater heights.

As I take over as the 20th President of the All Kerala Federation of OBGYN, I’d like to introduce my theme for the year 2022-23- “REACH OUT” which is infact very close to my heart. And so I would like to reach out to all the societies of Kerala at some time in my tenure and to carry on with the EMOCALS and ORRT programme which has helped us substantially reduce our maternal mortality rates.

We have over 13 societies and 2 clubs under the Kerala Federation and I would like to bring every one on board to join us on this magnificent journey. We have very robust programmes in place which I would like to strengthen, widen in scope and bring in more people. I would also like to have newer, younger and more vibrant people involved, so as to make this Federation more dynamic and inclusive. To name a few new committees we have in mind, like the Fetal Medicine Committee, Endoscopy committee, Perinatology committee etc and non academic committees like Public awareness, Social and Cultural Hub committee, and Young talent promotion committee.

We also plan to recognise the activities of outstanding committee’s and to motivate them to do better by bringing out awards of recognition.

The UNICEF deserves a special mention at this juncture for all the help and support rendered by them which has helped us carry on our flagship programmes in the past year. And we hope to do so with their support in the coming years too.

As part of the president’s OUT Reach programme we plan a bimonthly meeting to be held in different districts as short scientific sessions followed by a social get together. This has been made possible by the very kind unrestrictive grant from the “Sun Pharmaceuticals”

Last but not the least, we have worked out a KFOG Rotary initiative in distributing a “Saving Mothers Kit” consisting of tools and equipment's to be distributed to few deserving hospitals in the districts of Kerala where feasible. The first of which will be handed over in the month of July - August at Thrissur.

At all life’s defining moments we have two options - to step back in fear or to step forward in faith. So with absolute trust in my team of office bearers and with the blessings and good will of every member, I embark on this exciting journey. Because- “Together We Can.”
