Malanadu area consists of Muvattupuzha, Thodupuzha, Idukki, Kothamangalam, Adimali, Munnar, Kolencherry and Koothattukulam, with 3 medical colleges.
In 2014, the handful of FOGSI members in this area were facing isolation due to distance and traffic jams to reach Ernakulam. Dr Gracy Thomas, the President of COGS (Cochin) guided us to form a club.
On 22/11/2014, a first meeting with CME was organized by Dr Agnes Mathew, HOD of Al-Azhar Medical College. Dr Annie Soman and Dr Mini Issac of MOSC Medical College, Kolencherry conducted the CME. On that day 14 gynecologists were present when MOGC was born! The first president was Dr Agnes Mathew, first Secretary Dr Vinodhini and the first Treasurer Dr Annie Uthuppan.
3 Objectives were set out: Networking among Members, Scientific Updating, and Community Health Awareness. 2 monthly meetings with 2 yearly elections was the progrmme. We conducted Annual meetings called MOGC CON in November each year. Our faculty included Dr Paily Sir, Radhamany Madam and past KFOG presidents. The faculty and participants appreciated the excellent academic feast and the hilly ambience. We honored one senior member each year, and had video workshop and PG presentations.
At the MOGSICON 2019, we decided to update from Club to Society to get voting rights for all. The then President of KFOG, Dr Gopeenathan Sir was the Chief guest and he played a critical role by helping us step by step. Society was registered in December 2019, FOGSI approved MOGS at AICOG 2020 at Allahabad. This was announced in the AKCOG at Kottayam. Formal inauguration took place on 28/02 2020.
We were privileged to be born into the Covid-Zoom-Webinar Era and survived to the annual CME in November 2020 with almost all the KFOG dignitaries as faculty on the virtual platform. Membership has grown by 20 percent in our second year due to communication, the friendships, and CMEs.
